One Love, Many Faces – A City in Pictures

Exhibition

The making of met Bianca Pilet
3 jul - 1 nov
Free

In the photography exhibition One Love, Many Faces – A City in Pictures, from 3 July to 1 November, we explore the bond between residents and a city, specifically the city of Breda. We portray the many subcultures that enrich the city.

While the tower of the Grote Kerk Breda is for many the face of the city, it is the residents who give Breda its unique character. To capture this viewpoint from a contemporary perspective, the Grote Kerk Breda – which has been the city’s anchor for centuries – has commissioned photographers Bianca Pilet and Stacii Samidin to portray the city and its residents.

Bianca Pilet – the body as canvas

Bianca Pilet works for international fashion and lifestyle magazines and cultural publications, often on commission. She also creates ‘personal work’. Bianca’s distinctive, slightly absurdist style lies at the intersection of fashion, portraiture, art and visual storytelling. Her work addresses themes such as identity and the body.

Bianca focuses on the love of the people of Breda for the Grote Kerk. She portrays people with a tattoo of the city.

Stacii Samindin 2020

Stacii Samidin – beyond the stereotype

Stacii Samidin is known for his insightful and empathetic approach. Through his project Societies and his work for UNESCO, he documents the lives of communities with unconventional lifestyles around the world. With his photographs, he shows that the differences between people are not as great as we might think.

Stacii photographs the diverse new residents and the locals who have been rooted here for generations, capturing both everyday moments and special occasions. In this way, he portrays the culture of Breda as well as the people who make up the city.

Bunker Tattoo Roger

Tattoo Weekend

During the opening weekend of One Love, Many Faces – A City in Pictures, a Flash Weekend will take place on 4 and 5 July, in close collaboration with Bunker Tattoo. The church will host a session where unique tattoos, inspired by the monument’s rich history, are inked. Anyone receiving a tattoo is invited to share the personal story behind it. This creates a dialogue between the monument, the artist and the recipient.

NEW PERSPECTIVES

In 2024 the Grote Kerk Breda launched the series New Perspectives, an annual solo presentation by one or more contemporary artists whose work enters into dialogue with the storied history of the church. Maria Roosen kicked things off with RE-BELLE. The second presentation in the series was TRANS-FORM, featuring work by Guido Geelen.
